Friday Feast #2

September 28, 2007

New house, new habits? Just in case you didn’t notice, I blogged a bit more than usual this week. Could that be because my desk is a little more organized, my to-do list is in plain sight and I’ve finally got my very own bulletin board right above my computer monitor?

Whatever the reason, I’m feeling good heading into the weekend.

Enjoy my second Friday Feast, and feel free to join in the fun.

Appetizer
How are you today?

Tired. Middle boy is home sick for the second day in a row. After the 30 minute drive to the doctor yesterday, the 30 minute wait to be seen – then the subsequent 45 minutes we spent in the actual office cause he needed a nebulizer treatment – the visit seemed to last all day. Add in a trip to the radiologist to make sure he didn’t have fluid in his chest before they prescribed two inhalers to treat him and then the 30 minute drive back home…I didn’t get anything else done. At least he’s feeling better today :)

Soup
Name 3 television shows you watch on a regular basis.

Lost (when it comes back on)
24 (when it comes back on)
Two and a half men

Salad
What’s the scariest weather situation you’ve experienced?

Does an Earthquake count? Experienced a few small ones when I lived in San Diego – SCARY!

Main Course
If you could wake up tomorrow morning in another country, where would you want to be?

Probably Germany. Anywhere in Germany. I’ve always wanted to go there.

Dessert
What do you usually wear to sleep?

Don’t laugh. Flannel. Hubby loves his air-conditioning in the summer and we turn the heat down low at night in the winter. Flannel works (well, not for him ;) )

Thursday Thirteen #7 – Why I love September

September 27, 2007

Thirteen reasons why I love September

1. School starts! If you’re a Mom – I don’t have to explain this one.

2. School supplies. Sometimes I think the writer (or the geek) in me loves the office supply store more than I should. I LOVE the back to school sales and all the cool stuff they come up with every year to entice me. One can never have enough pens, colored pads and stickie notes – can one?

3. Labor Day barbecues. Any excuse to grill burgers and ribs and down a few margaritas with family and friends is a good time for me!

4. Labor Day Sales. Sad as it sounds, my Mom wardrobe has seen better days, and between those Back to School and Labor Day sales, I can usually spruce up the closet without feeling too much pain in the wallet.

5. Fall TV. After a summer of reruns, I look forward to my favorite shows and characters coming back to the tube.

6. The weather. In my part of the world, September is usually a great weather month. Not too hot, not cold yet…

7. Baseball. The road to the World Series is winding down, and if our team is making a run for the title – we’re MET fans and do NOT root for the yankees…ick! Then September is a nail-biting month.

8. Football. It’s the Jet’s all the way baby. We’re a gang green family (I even had to plan my first child’s baptism around the Jet’s home schedule cause the hubby was a season ticket holder at the time.)

9. Fall flowers. I’m a mum girl and doesn’t it seem like every year the mums get more vibrant and beautiful?

10. Critique Group Push. After the lazy days of summer the two critique groups I belong to usually make the September the month to “get moving again!” I love the feeling of knowing it’s time to get down to business (that’s not to say I’m not writing during the summer – it’s just a slower paced time of the year!)

11. Writing Goals. Twice a year I evaluate my writing goals. September and January. January because it’s technically the beginning of the new year, but more September for me because when the new school year starts – my date book fills up and my to-do list has to be more precise with my own goals laid out clearly.

12. Comfort Food. Kids back in school, routines beginning to take shape – gone are the nights of tossing burgers on the grill, eating sandwiches on the run or take-out on the way home from the beach or a day at the park. It’s time for pot-roasts and mashed potatoes. Pot-pies and stews.

13. Cool nights. And the best sleeping weather. The hubby and I don’t need to argue over turning up the air-conditioner (me, cause I hate to be too cold) and turning down the heat (him, cause he hates the house too hot.) Just open the window and let those cooling breezes rush in. Love September nights!

Organization/Priorities

September 25, 2007

Those two words might as well be banned from the English language as far as I’m concerned. I can’t seem to master either one of them, so – be gone!

Not realistic you say?

Offering to help are you?

Let’s get down to the facts. I just moved. Yes, the move from hell because – you guessed it – I was NOT organized. If I took take a picture of my dining room you’d see how llittle progress I’ve made in unpacking boxes and finding a home for everything in those boxes.

I want to write. I want to create. Okay, I want to chat and check my email and post on the boards I frequent – I really don’t want to unpack. I’m soooo done with this whole move thing, I just want the unpacking fairy to wave her magic wand over my house and “poof” have everything in it’s place!

Since that isn’t going to happen in my lifetime, I guess I just need to take a look at those two words and figure out a plan. Priority number one: unpack something today.

Patrick Warburton

Patrick Warburton. While I’m willing to admit his newest comedy series on CBS, set to kick off it’s first full season tonight, might not have been the best comedy to hit the waves last year – I always enjoy watching HIM. His charm and dead-pan line delivery keep me watching (at least for now). I hope this season gets off to a good start and the cast really starts to “gel.”

If you haven’t seen this show yet – take a look at some teasers here:

As always, tonight I’m looking forward to the antics of Charlie and Alan over on “Two and a half men” too!

Have a great Monday…

The Friday Feast Meme

September 21, 2007

Honestly, sometimes coming up with a list for the Thursday Thirteen can seem a bit overwhelming. So, while surfing the net, I stumbled across this little gem. For those lazy days when only a few answers are called for – or for those days when you just can’t think of anything to make a list out of…It’s THE FRIDAY FEAST to the rescue.

Here we go and please keep in mind these are not my questions – only my answers!

Appetizer
What is your favorite type of art? I’d have to say landscapes or nature. Not still lifes of fruit, and certainly not abstract ;(

Soup
When was the last time you got a free lunch (or breakfast or dinner)? Who paid for it? Does it count if hubby takes you to lunch? Even though EVERYTHING we have is joint? Well, if yes, then that would be yesterday. If not, then my sister-in-law brought me lunch to the our new house last week to share while she helped me unpack. :)

Salad
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how emotional are you?
11! Seriously I need tissue to watch commercials or attend ANYTHING involving me kids.

Main Course
Approximately how long do you spend each day responding to emails? I’d love say “not long” but I feel like I’m checking out the emails and responding all day long…not that I mind, cause somedays I feel like those emails are my link to the outside world (hermit that I’ve become.)

Dessert
To what temperature do you usually set your home’s thermostat? This greatly depends on the price of oil. When I see that gage making it’s downward plunge I get cheap and put on another sweater. And what’s wrong with wearing my flannel PJs and robe all day while I write anyway?

There you have it! Wanna join the fun? Copy the questions (either from here or from the original site) and leave me a comment that you joined the fun. I’ll add you link here so other people can pop over to you!

Happy Friday…
