The great coffee debate

July 24, 2007

If you’ve read my blog over any course of time, you’ve probably noticed that I usually end with what coffee is in my cup that morning. Sometime around November (I think ;) ) hubby bought me one of those newfangled Keurig coffee makers.

If you haven’t seen them – it’s a pretty darn cool machine. In my house we’ve only got two coffee drinkers on a daily basis. The hubster prefers a dark roast – ya know, the bold kind that’ll knock your socks off (and he drinks it black which really makes me sick!)

I, on the otherhand, perfer a flavored brew. Give me something like Southern Pecan or Swiss Chocolate Almond and I’m in heaven. I am the proud owner of a starbucks gift card that is always getting more money loaded onto it – I’m a sucker for the Grande Nonfat White Chocolate Latte with whipped cream!

So, back to my coffee maker – with this coffee maker everyone can get what they want. My guests have their choice of coffee from a basket I keep on my kitchen counter.

Since I’ve been sitting around – yes, writing! – I’ve developed the habit of drinking my coffee all day. I got to wondering the other day if I’m adding a ton of calories to my coffee with the flavor? No? How about with the addition of the flavored creamer and the half-n-half I put in, cause I do prefer to drink my coffee light?

While at conference in Dallas, they were kind enough to pump us full of Starbucks coffee at every turn. All the coffee is regular brew and at the “creamer” station they had the bottles of flavored shots you could add along with your cream. Hmmm…this got me thinking.

After a little investigation online, I discovered that I can buy those flavorings myself and have them on my counter to add at my leisure…(At this point, I’m beginning to think I might have too much spare time on my hands if I’m actually researching coffee flavorings and syrups…it does seem that way, doesn’t it?)

I’m thinking that if I use the flavor shots I don’t have to worry about buying a bunch of different varieties of coffee. I can use just the half-n-half because the flavor shot is stronger than the flavored coffee is – and I’ll get more bang for my buck.

Maybe I’m just addicted to my coffee?

Do you have a coffee preference?
