Thirteen Things about DEBORA’S COOKING
1….It’s taken me 20 years to learn the smoke detector is not an indicator my dinner is done.
2….My culinary experiments often go awry.
3….Doesn’t ketchup go with everything?
4….Pork chops don’t really need to be cooked for two hours? Hmmm…interesting.
5….Am I the only one that thinks chocolate is a food group?
6….All the ingredients in a recipe ARE necessary?
7….I love pasta and vegetables – why can’t they share my love three times a week?
8….I don’t need to steam my vegetables for 30 minutes? Hmmm…maybe I learning.
9….I pay no attention to the “cooking time” in my cookbooks.
10…I usually forget to defrost something until it’s too late – cooking a frozen roast takes A LONG TIME!
11…Since I insist on grocery shopping without a list – I never have all the ingredients the recipe calls for – I love to improvise – the family hates it.
12…I love to watch Rachel Ray and Emeril – then recreate the dish by memory…big mistake.
13…I can cover up a dry, burnt dinner with plenty of tasty sauce with the best of ‘em (see #3)

Maybe your talents lie elsewhere…

I bet you have an awe-inspiring collection of take out menus though!

Funny!!
I’m a cook and I’m guilty of #10 all the time. My hubby hates it when I give him a time estimate for dinner because you usually have to add anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes to that. Ooops.

LOL. Those are funny. Number 12 cracked me up because I can just imagine how wrong that could go!

LOLOLOLOL OMG I’m dying laughing. I am SO with you on #1 and #3…hahaha

Too funny! It all sounds very familiar. I’m leaving my link. Hope you don’t mind. http://www.jennahsharpe.blogspot.com

There are directions for cooking? Who knew?

I think they should do a reality TV show about people like us. I’m sure my family would love it if someone was following me around with a camera 24/7 to remind me dinner’s in the oven.
The dumb thing is, I actually had culinary classes in college. Of course, they don’t teach you how to make five different dishes out of the same ingredients because no one in the family will ever eat the same thing.
So, so many reasons to passive-aggressively suck at cooking =)

OH Funny!!!!
I wasn’t much for cooking either, the easier the better… *scratches head* I guess it still is! LOL
I don’t do “from scratch” unless it is accompanied by “my back,” and “Please”!
I love mixes and gravies, and if can be done from one box even better. Those aren’t really so bad, just add to them. Sour cream goes a long way, so does cheese. Trust me on that one. *wink*
Thanks Deb for the giggles!

I was laughing my butt off on this one. I can actually cook, but my husband does tease me about the smoke detector being my kitchen timer.
I threaten him with hot dogs and tater tots for a week. He shuts up. LOL.
And yes, a frozen roast takes a LONG time to cook. So does a frozen turkey. Or a frozen ham.
I really enjoyed this one Debora

This is why my family said the smartest thing I ever did was marry a chef. This way I’ll keep my eyebrows and never poor water in a smoking vat of oil again.

LOL. Too funny!

I do #12 too, only I go look up the recipe on the net…LOL

Too funny! People often seem surprised that I can cook. Just because I can doesn’t mean I necessarily like to, though.

LOL! Time definitely seems to your nemesis, not cooking.
My daughter would agree with you about ketchup being a fine sauce for just about everything but chocolate.

This is so funny- I love it.
March 29, 2007 at 6:02 pm |
I agree with Jennifer. It seems as if you’re more time-challenged than anything else.
March 29, 2007 at 10:27 pm |
Ha! You know, I know lots of brilliant people who can’t cook. But I think Jenn is right, it seems to be the timing.
March 29, 2007 at 11:09 pm |
HA – any of Rachel Ray’s 30 Minute Meals takes me at least 45 mins to an hour. I just don’t chop as fast as she does, and I suck at cooking more than one thing at a time. So I’m usually in the kitchen cursing, trying to keep from burning things! LOL

#12 made me laught out loud! Do you have some good take-out restaurants listed on speed dial? LOL
March 30, 2007 at 3:27 pm |
LOL! You’re killing me. My little one thinks mommy has lost it and is casually walking backwards from the room. I love to cook and friends give me a hard time about wanting to be around for my experiments.

Hilarious.
I accidentally set off the smoke detector once so I totally sympathize.
