Lip Sync

February 26, 2007

It’s been a while since I spouted some opinions on things other than writing around here – so here goes. While I’m sure this might be an odd thing to have gotten under my skin for a Monday morning – it’s been brewing all weekend.

Ever watch a movie and the words aren’t in sync with the lips? Drives me so crazy that I can’t watch the movie as soon as it starts happening. I focus on the actor’s lips and the words and it grates on my nerves something awful.

My kids laugh and tell me to look away – but it’s like a train wreck – I can’t stop looking. And then I get mad and complain. And anyone that knows me, knows I can’t let ANYTHING go, so I’ll just keep looking and complaining until finally the family can’t stand it another minute and they switch the channel. But to their credit, they do let me wax poetic for quite a while before they are forced to shut me up.

Sometimes, switching the channel helps. Sometimes not. So for this snowy Monday morning – you have something you want to rant and complain about? I’m here for ya…

Alliteration with Deb

February 21, 2007

New day – the blank, stark white computer screen flashes in front of me – Oh No! It’s the beginning of a new chapter which is always the hardest for me. Where should I start this scene? Which characters pov is the most relevant? And most important – what needs to be the goal of this scene and how can I get it written?

Well, it’s time to take a break and visit the dozens of blogs I frequent for some inspiration. I break out the chocolate (okay – it’s only 9am – so maybe I’m not breaking out the hershey bar just yet) and I’ve brewed my favorite coffee – hazelnut cream this morning – yum!

Then I’m back facing that blank white page with the little black blinking cursor. It calls to me to give him some exercise and let him hop across the page as quickly as my nimble fingers can fly across my keyboard – but alas – I’m stumped.

So instead I’ve come here to play a game. It’s called alliteration. Do you dare play along with me? If you’re game – here’s the one and only rule -

Make a complete sentence where every word starts with the first letter of your name – I’ll even be lenient and let you choose your first, middle or last name.

Here’s my offering and then I’m off to get that blank page off my screen…

Debora’s dialogue disheartened Dexter’s demure date.

Your turn…

Bonds of Matri-Money

NOW AVAILABLE FROM AVALON BOOKS: THE BONDS OF MATRI-MONEY. (And next on my list of books to be read!)

“Bonds” is the story of Renata Moon and Connell MacAllister, two people who decide to solve their financial problems by getting married and competing in a reality game show for newlyweds. The catch? They’ll spend thirty days (and nights) in the jungles of Bali handcuffed to one another!

All in one place

February 16, 2007

No, you’re not going crazy. The blog has been revised – again. Anyone that’s been following me for the past year has probably figured out by now that I am creature of change.

I love to move, change, rename and reinvent things whenever I get the chance – or those deep dark moments of procrastination set it!

The good news is that no matter what link you clinked to find me: www.ddmills.com, www.deboradennis.com or www.ddmills.wordpress.com – all will bring you to the same place – HERE!

I may not be the most techno-savy girl out there – but I did figure out how to redirect both sites to one place. The best part is I can enjoy my identiy crisis safely inside my own little world – and everyone still knows where to find me.

Welcome to my world – pull up a chair and grab a steaming hot brew (cause it’s cold out there!) and hold on – the road might be bumpy – but it will be interesting!

Happy Friday – enjoy the weekend.
